Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary program that
emphasizes analytical approaches to the culture, history,
society and political economy of the region. The major
provides significant preparation to students pursuing
careers in public policy, law, business, social work,
education, international relations and advanced research.
The major is designed to offer interdisciplinary training in
the major areas of Latin American culture, combining
language study, the humanities and the social sciences. Core
courses in history, literature and politics develop a base
for understanding the life of the region. Latin American
Studies majors also choose electives from a list that
includes offerings in art, economics and sociology, and
additional work in the core disciplines.
The major culminates in a senior exercise in which the
student synthesizes and applies coursework to present a
comprehensive interpretation of selected topics in Latin
American Studies. |
